Sociology with Human Rights, Communications, and Professional Writing minors
I began my 1L year as a J.D. candidate at Brooklyn Law School in August 2026! I am super excited to be attending an institution so deeply rooted in public service and interest.
With a human rights minor, I was constantly being challenged to think past the basic ideas of human rights and wrongs. This minor challenged me to think and construct arguments in ways that my other classes weren't whether it was because the content was less familiar or more complex. The minor also helped me practice considering different perspectives, why people act certain ways, and how certain issues get overlooked in a sea of others. These are skills I am certainly using as a law student where I look at various cases and doctrines, think about how people are impacted by them, and consider my role in the future of legal work.

I currently work as a tutor for high school students at a charter school near my hometown.
The impact of my degree has been twofold. It has prepared me with the skills to think critically and given me the mental stamina to juggle multiple topics and tasks. But it has also altered me on a deeper level. With degrees such as English and human rights, that encourage you to question the world around you, I find that I am less inclined to accept the status quo. In an era when higher education is constantly under attack, especially fields in the humanities, I thank my studies for helping me realize how dangerous that can be.

Psychology with a Human Rights minor
I am currently a graduate student that just completed my first year of law school.
I took Human Rights in Latin America as a “filler” course. I ended up falling in love with the subject as it fueled my passion for advocating for the public. It aligned directly with my law career aspirations.
