Conflict in Palestine/Israel - Use Article 26 Backpack to Safeguard Critical Academic Documents, Credentials and Research

The UC Davis Human Rights Studies Program reiterates Chancellor May’s recent statement that:

"Our community is reeling and in pain from the terror and escalating violence we are witnessing in Israel and in the Gaza Strip. Especially horrific is the use of hostages and the great losses of both Israeli and Palestinian civilian lives."

And echoes the concerns raised  by the Middle East Studies Association that:

“Israeli bombardment has struck at least 185 educational facilities, including 20 United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) schools and 165 Palestinian Authority schools, one of which was destroyed. The Islamic University of Gaza was attacked by Israeli airstrikes. The cumulative effect of the bombardment has resulted in massive and ongoing death, displacement, and destruction, imperiling—among many other things—even the possibility of access to education for generations of Gazan children and students into the indefinite future.”

While recognizing that the blockade imposed by Israel on the people of Gaza has rendered internet communication unavailable, we still encourage Palestinians to make use of the UC Davis Article 26 Backpack to safely store their most critical educational documents, professional credentials, research, and creative works when power and connectivity is restored. We encourage Palestinians living the West Bank who have connectivity now to do so as soon as possible.
